“Marie Curie” Association is a non-profit NGO. It was founded in 1997 in the Plovdiv, Bulgaria. It has been involved in various transnational projects, both as promoter and a partner. Our activities are focused on people with disabilities. These activities are related to the educational, social and work integration of people with different kind and degree of disabilities.

Being a partner in the project QATRAIN has involved much preparation including, the adaptation and translation of materails to create the Bulgarian version of SCIPS website. "Marie Curie" Association also completed  a survey on:

  • The number of  universities and colleges in Bulgaria,
  • The restrictions imposed on disabled candidates applying to Universities
  • Regulations for enrollment of students in these higher education institutions.
  • The number of the enrolled disabled students and the subjects they study.
  • The barriers students meet in the environment and the challenges; they have to overcome within their education.

The team of  "Marie Curie" Association working on the project, has established a steering group, consisting of teachers and professors at universities and colleges, members of NGOs include members who work  with  people with disabilities, stakeholders and institutions who are directly engaged with addressing issues of disabled people.

Parts of  the Bulgarian  SCIPS site, which includes 9 types of disability and 6 academic subjects were adapted in accordance to the normative documents and the conditions in the country.

Another part has been translated and applied as tested good practices.

"Marie Curie" Association’s team aim to create equal opportunities of young people with disabilities, so that they acquire full access to quality education. The expectations are that SCIPS site will be successfully applied at both universities and colleges. Its further development will give the possibility for extending the number of academic subjects and including more learning materials when suggested by teachers and students, by using a feedback form as an active form of communication.
